Your overall health is a combination of your physical, social, and mental well-being. For many of us, we have become used to experiencing stress daily, settling for only a few hours of sleep each night, barely exercising, and eating processed foods that provide little nourishment for the mind and body.
One reason why the Biopsychosocial perspective is so useful is because it explains how some people who are seemingly “healthy” can get mental illnesses and why some are more prone to mental illness than others. Those who are mentally healthy most likely exercise, have positive energy and strong social bonds does not exempt them from mental illness.
Feeling overwhelmed can feel like wave after wave just continuing to batter you towards a hopelessness and depressive state. Being overwhelmed is treatable and there is a plethora of testimonies of overcoming and living a fully productive, fruitful and successful life after being seriously overwhelmed.
Get to know yourself, identify your needs, preferences and values and communicate them to the people around you. Giving more energy to positives than negatives helps to keep us happier, healthier, and more hopeful. Work on building your strengths; it is what carries you through Life.
We can blame the traffic, our environment, our schedule, the pressure and anything else we allocate to our perception of Stress, but stress is inside us, it is our thoughts, our responses, reactions and behaviours to situations or moments in our environment. Managing Stress is the way we react, respond, think and behave in those situations. You can do it, you can manage your stress and use it to your advantage.
